|Body Coding in Action|
Sunday, 14 January 2018
Last week, we began a computer programming project entitled Coding Quest through The Learning Partnership. Coding Quest focuses on STEM education, 21st Century learning and computational thinking, while incorporating learning skills, science & technology, mathematics, language arts, and visual arts. As a final task, students will work in groups of three to research, design, program, and market a video game based on a science inquiry topic. They will then present their video game at a regional Arcade hosted by The Learning Partnership. Students have been introduced to basic coding concepts and we are now working on completing a variety of coding challenges such as movement, costume change, and sound, using the program Scratch.

In French, we have been exploring the reading comprehension strategy "Se poser des questions". Students are encouraged to practice this strategy at home by asking questions and looking for answers before, during, and after reading a book. They may begin their questioning with the thinking stem "Je me demande...". Students should try to use a variety of question words from the list below. They should also aim to ask a mix of both thin questions (yes/no or short answers - Who? What? When? Where? How many?) and thick questions (longer answers with opinions or evidence - How? Why?).

Please click on the link "Les différentes formes d`énergie" located under "Liens de sciences" to learn more about the different forms of energy. Can you identify which form of energy is being used by students in the picture?

Allo les cinquièmes! I hope you all had a fantastic summer! I am excited to begin a new school year that will be filled with learning adventures. I look forward to getting to know each one of you so that we may build a classroom community where every child feels safe, comfortable and is celebrated for their progress and achievements. A class newsletter was sent home on the first day of school with information regarding some of our class routines and expectations. The focus during the first week will be to get students back into the routine of consistently speaking French throughout the first two blocks of the day. Bon courage!
